View Full Version : Qmail-Scanner testing script

I have installed Qmail-Scanner, Clam Anti-Virus and Spamassassin without any errors on a fully functional Qmail installation on RHEL 3 (by the way, I had to install perl-DB_File as well as the recommended modules).

The Qmail-Scanner testing script runs without error, but I never receive notification to my designated mailbox. The messages have been quarantined in /var/spool/qmailscan, howerer I do not receive notification.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Wow I have exactly the same problem... lets hope someone knows how its solved... btw if you look in your quarentine dir then you can see that clamd is picking up the viruses but not generating emails...

Hmmm

me too!!!

I have the same problem: when I run
./test_installation.sh -doit

I receive only 2 e-mail messages (instead of 4).:? :(

I receive the first one (plain text message) and the last one (spam message), but I don't receive clamav notification about third and fourth messages (though in my /var/spool/qmailscan/quarantine/new those 2 new messages correctly appear).:? :(

Has anyone an idea on how to solve this?

Thanks!

P.S: I've also set softlimit to 50000000, as seen on
http://www.qmailrocks.org/qmrbb/viewtopic.php?t=57&highlight=testinstallation+sh

but virused messages are still NOT notified (though they are blocked and quarantined!!!)

Hi all, just to say I have the same issue, virus mail sent to quarantine dir, but no notification to the postmaster account. I checked the /var/qmail/bin/qmail-scanner-queue.pl file and the correct email address is in there for virus notifications.

Any further news on this problem ?

Phil

I'm having the same issue. Seems like it's simply not sending the email.

What the HECK is

UP!

?

Is this an in-joke?

In any case, it sounds as if your qmail-scanner ./configure line may not be _quite_ right (or perhaps the setup of the /var/qmail/alias files)

Go back and doublecheck those.

I have gotten it all working wooohoo!!! this website/howto/package kicks serious ass, I had been trying several howto's for about a week now, it wsa driving me absolutely insane:)

however, this is the one glitch I can not fix or understand..

its very weird, and things are exactly as described in the first post of this thread for me.

I can send mail to the postmaster account, and receive it normally as I should. I can send and receive, everything works great! I was also very meticulous and careful about making sure to follow the instructions exactly.. It's funny I didn't receive any of the messages from the script, but according to the /var/log/maillog all the mail that is flowing through the server IS being scanned by clam and spamassassin. weeird..

I fixed this with a reboot :)

I have rebooted but the problem remains...

for spotman: have you changed something in your qmailrocks installation?

Have you followed perfectly this guide?

Thanks.

I appear to have this problem too. I have built my QmailRocks system on Fedora Core 2 and used the newly modified step 14 to install qmail-scanner with qms-analogue (the instructions in this step need a bit of work still... <grin>)

Anyway, my postmaster is receiving the 1st message, the 2 antivirus check messages are quarantined but I have received no notification and, interestingly, the spam test message from yahoo appears to be being deleted.

Since postmaster is receiving message 1/4 and since the logs show all the other three messages are processed, I assume the system is working with the exception of the quarantine mails - I will check through the revisions to the configure scripts to see if a SpamAssassin delete threshold is being set - the new scripts iin the archives do differ from those referenced in the text!

This issue has been answered on the 'General'' section of this forum - it is recommended in that message that you do not rename the daemon version of Clam and do not make the symlink to the single user version. The message also suggests modifying the clamd configuration file to have clamd run as root.

Making these changes worked for me and I now have clamd sending detection messages to postmaster. In my earlier post I noted that message 4/4 also didn't arrive - as I suggested this is because the spam score takes it over a threshold.

I now have my QMR system working as intended by this guide and am implementing additional things (notably RBL, Razor and Pyzor support in SpamAssassin). It would be useful if these fairly simple enhancements were included in the guide.

I have tried tonight to upgrade clam antivirus to the latest version, and to upgrade qmail-scanner-queue.pl to the latest version (mainly interested in the new logging and maybe any increase in scanning speeds)

I installed clam av, and initially had a few problem, which was resolved by allowing the root user to run clamd.

I have then followed the new steps to create the new qmail-scanner-queue.pl, I patched it using the latest patch, 06/06/04, edited the qms-config file and changed the relevent field, then ran the script. I then moved the new qmail-scanner-queue.pl to the /var/qmail/bin directory (backing up my old one first of course)

I then ran the test_installation script, in which I then receive the first email no problems, and the fourth one also comes through no problems. The second and third emails show in the qmail-queue logs but I don't get the notification from the System Anti-Virus Administrator. I have tripple checked the config file and address that it goes to, even changed it to another address, but the two clam av emails just never arrive.

Feeling rather annoyed that it isn't working, I then backup my new qmail-scanner-queue.pl script, and copy the old one back, again ran the test_installation script, and whammo, all four emails come through.

So I am at a loss as to what is causing this, I have had a fully working qmailrocks installation for several months, and is now currently working again, with the new clam av, just with my original qmail-scanner-queue.pl script.

I like many other people in this forum am looking for some tips to answer this puzzle.

I have also tried the above link, I get the same issue if clamscan or clamdscan scan the viruses, both show in the qmail-queue logs, but no email arrives with this particular version of qmail-scanner-queue.pl. I also tried the bundled patch for this file to no avail.

I hope my post has cleared the problem up, and I am hoping for an answer.

Thanks in advance,

Regards.

Adam.

On my RH9:
when i execute ./test_installation.sh -doit
i can receive all 4 test messages but they all are recognized as viruses by clamscan, which reports a warning similar to this:
"Disallowed breakage found in header name..."
the solution was a little strange for me:
when i set the LANG environment variable to en_US then all is OK and i received one clear message, one marked as spam and 2 notifies about viruses (althought i think that msg. #3 must not be catched as such...)
which means that upon system reboot this environment variable must be set (the default is LANG=en_US.UTF-8).
i have tried to to this using rc.local, but this not worked for me and now i set this directly within /etc/sysconfig/i18n
Can somebody suggest a more elegant way to set this varible upon reboot?
